The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Kentucky is seeking a full-time Vice Chair of Academic Affairs faculty position.

 The Vice Chair of Academic Affairs of the UK Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) will fulfill essential executive, scholarship and leadership responsibilities related to the academic programs for a vibrant and growing department in the College of Medicine.  This individual will report to the Chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Primary responsibilities for this position will include the following:

  • Assist the Chair, with consultation of programmatic leads, in organizing and coordinating the UME, GME, CE academic strategy (as part of the Strategy Map) for the Department of Family & Community Medicine (DFCM), which includes succession planning.
  • Establish a cohesive, well-functioning work group for programmatic leaders that encourages educational excellence. Manage the operations of the academic affairs for the DFCM, which includes, but is not limited to, oversight of academic budgets, programmatic appointees and leads, academic bonus systems, and resource assessment and allocation.
  • Support the programmatic leaders, such as clerkship and residency program directors, to ensure strategic plan-based goals are achieved and the highest quality of education is maintained.
  • Manage all academic metrics for the DFCM.
  • Serve in a supporting role for faculty in academic leadership career tracks.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the DFCM Faculty Development and Mentoring programs.
  • Promote educational scholarly activities in the DFCM.
  • Active submissions of education-related grants.
  • Submit an annual academic affairs report based on the annual DFCM Strategy Map.
  • Develop and implement a leadership skills program for academic and clinical staff with a goal to increase diversity and inclusivity of underrepresented minorities and/or those from rural areas in staff leadership roles and positions.
  • Lead core DFCM educational symposia and/or lectures on diversity and inclusivity, professionalism, wellness, and ethics.
  • Serve as a visible and positive spokesperson for the DFCM inside and outside of the department.
  • Lead based on the values stated on the DFCM Strategic Map.
  • Participate in the evaluation of faculty with the Chair.
