Job Description: Associate Program Director
Description: The Associate Program Director (APD) works with the Family Medicine Residency Program Director (PD) in developing, directing, and managing the Family Medicine program. The Associate Program Director position ensures stability of the residency-training program, including compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies.
Requirements: Board–certified Family Medicine physician searching for an academic practice in a rural, progressive setting, is searching for an Associate Program Director.
Preferred: Three-five years of teaching experience and interest in academic rural medicine.
Overview for Associate Program Director (APD): This position serves to assist the Program Director in the development of a newly accredited Family Medicine Residency Program.
Prior to inaugural residents arriving in June 2020, the APD will spend approximately 60% of time in direct patient care, and at least 40% of time on program development. After June 2020, at least 60% of time is dedicated to the program and approximately 40% in direct patient care without residents.
Initial Duties (prior to residents):
- Revise curriculum by rotation/year, including goals and objective.
- Create resident and faculty evaluation tools with PD and PC.
- Create outline for Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee.
- Participate in interview and ranking process for resident candidates.
- See patients and expand patient panel with focus on OB and Peds patients.
- Assists the program director in mentoring and providing critical evaluations of the clinical and teaching effectiveness of the Family Medicine residents and program.
- Ensures adequate physician, resident and other provider supervision of the outpatient teaching services.
- Serves as a preceptor for residents who see patients in the FMP.
- Participates regularly in nursing home and home visits with residents.
- Attends conferences regularly.
- Serves as a role model by seeing patients within the FMP.
- Participates in residency administration
- Participates in the recruitment, selection, and orientation processes of residents and faculty.
- Responsible for overseeing required curriculum and elective curriculum and assisting in the preparation of goals and objectives.
- Serves as an advisor to assigned residents, ensuring evaluations and other requirements are completed per resident policy.
- Participates in the planning and making recommendations for the acquisition of optimal educational resources for residency education.
- Serves on assigned committees such as, the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC), Program Evaluation Committee (PEC), etc.

Our three-year program is accredited for 24 residents and will begin teaching the inaugural class of 8 first year residents in 2020. Our residency is unopposed. We are also connected with 3 medical school programs, University of Washington, Washington State University, and Pacific Northwest Health Science University, where we help train third- and fourth-year medical students who wish to pursue rural practice. We plan to expand to include have a pharmacy residency program, a nursing program and many allied health training programs. The wide range of our educational programs allow us to learn in interdisciplinary teams, providing the best opportunity for both education and patient care. Our residency program is also at the center of our expanding community health efforts.
Our inpatient facility at Holy Family Hospital is a highly-advanced community hospital, licensed at 272 beds, offering a full slate of services across a wide range of primary care and specialist disciplines. Substantial faculty time is protected for teaching and administrative use in the program. Faculty spend two to three half-days seeing patients, with a maximum of 8--10 patients per half-day. Hospital admissions from the faculty practice are admitted to the Residency Inpatient Service. We offer extremely competitive salary and benefits in a very low-cost-of-living area.
