POSITION: The Department of Family Medicine (DFPM) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is pleased to invite applications for a Health Psychologist faculty position. This position will be at the Assistant or Associate level based upon experience.
DESCRIPTION: The Psychologist will serve as the Director of Behavioral Science within the Department of Family Medicine, and also have a primary appointment within the Department of Psychiatry to collaborate within the Division of Psychology. The Psychologist will be responsible for the creation, maintenance, and delivery of the Behavioral Science curriculum to the GME Residency programs within the UAMS Department of Family and Preventative Medicine. The psychologist will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other educational programs at UAMS on primary care behavioral science educational content and curriculum delivery. The psychologist will be a valued team member of the residency administration team, with duties that include evaluation, committee membership, recruitment activities, day-to-day administrative responsibilities, orientation of new residents, and active participation during the graduation program. The psychologist will also have clinical care responsibilities by providing assessment and brief interventions to patients seen within the Family Medicine Clinic. The psychologist will also serve as a Mentor for our APA-Accredited Clinical Psychology Internship and will have opportunity to lead scholarly presentations and publications related to behavioral science as part of family medicine.
SETTING: The DFPM is a community based facility created to treat and study various forms of illness and expand community based health projects. DFPM houses a variety of programs including the Family Medical Clinic, the Family Medicine Residency, the Research Evaluation Division, and the Continuing Health Education Division. Our Residency program has maintained a one hundred percent board exam pass rate. This is the highest rate in Arkansas and is unexcelled in the nation. The Residency program currently has eighteen residents; six in each year of the three-year program.
UAMS is Arkansas’ only comprehensive academic health center. It is the largest public employer in the state with more than 10,000 employees in 73 of Arkansas’ 75 counties and a regional campus in Northwest Arkansas. UAMS is located in Little Rock, a scenic city sitting on the south bank of the Arkansas River in Central Arkansas. It is the capital and most populous city in Arkansas. The size of Little Rock and surrounding area gives its residents a feeling of living in a large city with many amenities accessible to them but also having a small town feel with quiet shops and family-friendly neighborhoods. Little Rock boasts a number of attractions for those who are lovers of art, music, and theater, including the Arkansas Arts Center, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Robinson Center Music Hall, Wildwood Park for the Arts, Community Theatre of Little Rock, and Ballet Arkansas. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy biking and running on the Arkansas River Trail which features more than 15 miles of scenic riverfront and the Big Dam Bridge, one of the longest pedestrian and bicycle bridges in North America. Little Rock also has over 60 parks and recreational areas.
APPLICATION: At the time of the application, candidates must have: 1) completed a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program, 2) completed an APA accredited clinical psychology internship, and 3) be enrolled in or have completed a post-doctoral fellowship with appropriate clinical experiences. Candidates must be licensed in Arkansas or license eligible. At least two years of experience in Family Medicine GME teaching is preferred.
