Department Head, Primary Care and Population Medicine

Texas A&M University Health Science Center (TAMHSC) ( seeks an outstanding strategic and collaborative leader to serve as the Department Head of Primary Care and Population Medicine for the Texas A&M Health Science Center.

Position Opportunity:

  • Focus on population-health improvement efforts in order to foster seamless coordination of care, effective integration of services and to achieve positive patient outcome and value.
  • Build a comprehensive primary care network - which will improve and impact on the health outcomes of vast populations of individuals.
  • Identify and support the educational and research priorities in medical education with a focus on improving the health of patients and communities preparing future physicians to meet the evolving health needs of the U.S. populations.
  • Department Head (Chair) of Primary Care and Population Medicine of the College of Medicine will build a top ranked comprehensive department including research and scholarly activities and be committed to an interprofessional population health management approach. 
  • Will be a visionary leader who will develop the Department and implement a primary care and population medicine strategy.

Representative Goals include:

  • Identify, recruit and retain professional staff including physicians and advanced practice faculty.
  • Build a technology-enabled enterprise including telehealth.
  • Improve access to clinical services and patient navigation throughout the region to improve transitions of care.
  • Identify strategic clinical growth opportunities which align with the research and educational goals of the organization.

The Health Science Center includes the following:

  • College of Medicine
  • College of Nursing
  • Rangel College of Pharmacy
  • School of Public Health
  • Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry

Professional Qualifications:

  • An M.D. or M.D./PhD. with national recognition, with a preferable background in the field of Primary Care Medicine and Population Medicine.
  • A significant leadership role in a complex interdisciplinary university or academic health science center, with demonstrated strategic and implementation skills, particularly with respect to balancing the academic tripartite mission.
  • Leadership skills necessary to build a clinical service program based upon educational and research priorities while also building the key relationships linked to the clinical mission of the total enterprise.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary health science center setting.
