The Program Director leads and directs the Family Medicine Residency Program, and is accountable for all program outcomes. The Program Director provides leadership, mentoring, teaching and administrative oversight to the residents within the program and to faculty who serve the mission of the residency program. Direct involvement in patient care is essential, as well as direct teaching and supervision of residents. The Program Director oversees and ensures the quality of the didactic and clinical education provided in the program. The ACGME Family Medicine Program Requirements outline specific duties of the Program Director, and the Program Director is responsible for preparing and submitting all required and requested information of the ACGME. The Program Director is a key member of the Department of Family Medicine Leadership team, with accountability for collaborating to ensure success of all strategic missions of the Department of Family Medicine.

Required Qualifications

  • MD/DO degree
  • Board Certified in Family Medicine
  • Holds current unrestricted medical licensure
  • Eligibility for unrestricted Tennessee medical license
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in family medicine
  • Minimum two years as a core faculty member in an ACGME or AOA-accredited family medicine residency program

Experience with residency programs in rural and medically underserved areas is preferred.
