The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) seeks applications for the position of Head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine. The Department of Family and Community Medicine has a strong tradition of service in the local community along with a track record in teaching primary care as well as conducting community-based research. It is home to the Rockford Family Medicine Residency Program based out of the UI Health L.P. Johnson Family Health Center, the Dixon Rural Training Track, the Monroe Clinic Rural Family Medicine Residency Program and a new Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship Program.
The University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Medicine is one of the largest medical schools in the United States. The Rockford campus offers the Doctor of Medicine Program and a Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology Program and is home to the National Center for Rural Health Professions. The UICOMR is part of the UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford, which is also home to College of Pharmacy and College of Nursing programs. Rockford is a progressive, mid-sized metropolitan about 90 miles northwest of Chicago. The city has minor league baseball and hockey, numerous golf courses, an award-winning park system, three botanical gardens, an art museum, theaters, symphony orchestra, dance company and river walk. Public and several private school systems are available.
The ideal candidate will be a board-certified, family physician qualified to be licensed to practice in Illinois. The candidate must be experienced in clinical teaching and/or administration at the undergraduate and/or the graduate level. The candidate must have demonstrated experience, skills and knowledge in health care administration and in the implications of managed care especially as it affects the medical school’s clinical activities. The candidate will have a demonstrated history in research endeavors. The candidate will report directly to the Regional Dean of the College of Medicine.
