Cejka Executive Search has been selected to support the jointly established Search Committee of SUNY Downstate Medical Center (SUNY Downstate) and One Brooklyn Health System (OBH) to recruit a progressive physician leader into a newly created role: Chair, Department of Family and Community Medicine, SUNY Downstate, and Chief of Population Health Strategy and Innovation for OBH. OBH was formed through the unification of three systems to integrate community based services and primary care for the population of Central and Northeast Brooklyn. New York State announced $655M in capital funding to support OBH. As a result, this new leadership role presents a unique opportunity to help develop innovative strategies in population health, improve the health of residents, and become a national model for community health practices.
The Chair of Family and Community Medicine for SUNY Downstate will be responsible for administrative operations of the academic Department consisting of 23 attendings providing care at two locations and public school-based health centers, the medical student program, and the residency program. The department Chair will advance clinical programs, recruit and develop faculty members, establish multidisciplinary clinical programs and expand the Department’s research enterprise focused on studying the outcomes of health interventions in the community.
SUNY Downstate’s Department of Family and Community Medicine is the academic partner to OBH to help develop a robust primary care and community health system in Central and Northeast Brooklyn. The Chief of Population Health Strategy and Innovation for OBH will serve as a key thought leader for the establishment of population health program development, research and innovation in health care delivery with the aim of improving the health status and wellness of the population served while lowering the cost of care delivered. The Chair and Chief will contribute to the strategy of the development of a 32-site ambulatory care network focused on primary care, preventative care and wellness to support the health and well-being of Brooklynites.
Successful candidates should hold the academic rank of Associate Professor or above and will have demonstrated clinical leadership experience for advancing outcomes in quality, performance management, growth and academic initiatives. Candidates must have a record of effective administrative and fiscal leadership in advancing an ambulatory care network and family and community health programs that support population health activities. Active Board certification in Family Medicine is required. This Chair will report to the Dean of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, and as Chief, will be a member of the senior leadership team of OBH.
