The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center/Penn State College of Medicine is the oldest academic Family Medicine Department in the country. We are located in Hershey, Pennsylvania and play an essential role in all of the missions of our academic health center. We are a diverse and growing department, with over 100 faculty members spread across three geographic locations in Hershey, State College, and Reading, Pennsylvania.
The Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey
Medical Center/Penn State College of Medicine is seeking a Vice Chair for Faculty Development who will serve all FCM faculty members. This Vice Chair position includes moving expenses, a start-up package, and signing bonus. This is a tenure track faculty position.
The Vice Chair for Faculty Development plays a key role in enhancing faculty members’ professional and career goals by identifying programs, recognitions, and mentorship opportunities, as well as providing a supporting role in the promotion and tenure process. Responsibilities include:
- Oversight of Family & Community Medicine faculty development, including activities and initiatives
- Review and advancement of each component of faculty development (promotion and tenure, annual review, awards and recognition, Junior Faculty Development Program, grants and research activities, etc.)
- Advocate for faculty development and advancement within our Health System and College of Medicine
- Assist the Associate Vice Chair for Faculty Vitality in supporting faculty with challenges in maintaining a work-life balance
- Advise and report to Department Chair regarding faculty progress and concerns
Candidates must have MD, DO, PhD, EdD, or equivalent, with American Board Certification. Applicants must have at least 5 years’ at the rank of Associate Professor, or reached the rank of Professor, with a demonstrated record of faculty development and mentorship.
The Department has extensive resources to assist the Vice Chair for Faculty Development, including senior research faculty available for mentoring, dedicated research support staff, IT support, and marketing assistance. The candidate will collaborate with the Department Chair, FCM Vice Chairs, the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, and the Associate Dean of Faculty and Professional Development. There are many opportunities to collaborate with leaders within the Department and across the institution.
