Vice Chair, Clinical

Faculty Position

 

Associate Professor or Professor, Rank and Track Commensurate with Experience

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine embraces the University of Utah mission of scholarship pursued via mutually reinforcing research, education and clinical care as well as community engagement that draws on, and in turn, strengthens the department’s multiple disciplines. The Vice Chair works under the authority of and reports to the Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. The Vice Chair, Clinical leads the development of departmental clinical strategy to advance scholarship across these elements and disciplines.

Essential Functions:

  1. Lead the development and promotion of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine strategy to support the mission, vision, values and goals of the Department, School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center for clinical operations.
  2. Collaborate across the University, Health Sciences, School of Medicine and Department as well as across the community and with global partners to develop and implement departmental strategy.
  3. Champion the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine as leaders in health care, research, and education to “Expand the Possibilities of Health” for the people of Utah and beyond.
  4. Monitor and report performance on the delivery of strategic initiatives using benchmarks and quality improvement analytics.
  5. Work closely with and support the Division Chiefs within the Department as well as the clinic medical directors.
  6. Collaborate with and support the Administrative Director and operations leaders on budgets, business plans, practice reports, compensation, and any new business proformas as related to new clinical business.
  7. Partner with and share accountability with the Clinical Medical Directors and clinical site management for the clinical quality, productivity and financial success of clinical operations.
  8. Represent the Department and Department Chair within the University and in the Community.
  9. Lead internal mission committees including the Clinical committee and others as assigned by the Department Chair.

 

Key performance indicators:

  1. Meet institutional goals on the Value Road map for U Health
  2. Meet budgeted revenues for the Clinical practice sites
  3. Meet recruiting goals for clinical faculty from all divisions

 

Required Qualifications:

  1. MD/DO degree
  2. Board Certification in Family Medicine
  3. Eligibility for unrestricted Utah License
  4. Minimum 5 years of clinical experience
  5. Minimum 5 years in leadership role

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated excellence in clinical care
  2. Demonstrated leadership in clinical practice
  3. Demonstrated effectiveness in administrative role
  4. Key leadership competencies including:

a. directing and developing others

b. change management experience

c. effective team building

d. managing vision, strategy and purpose

e. building collaboration across disciplines

 

Reporting:

The Vice Chair will report to the Chair of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, who is ultimately responsible to the Dean of the School of Medicine for carrying out these responsibilities and functions.
