Faculty - Family Medicine with Obstetrics – Battle Creek, Michigan
Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine
The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) continues to lead change for health care in Michigan. An exciting new opportunity to be a founding faculty member of a 6-6-6 family medicine residency in Battle Creek, MI, is now available. This program will be sponsored by Bronson Battle Creek and will be partnering with Grace Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Battle Creek, where the Family Medicine Practice will be located.
The inaugural class of residents will enter training in July, 2019. The faculty hired for this position will be integral in establishing the clinical practice base for the residency. Scope of practice should demonstrate the breadth of family medicine and include obstetrics, outpatient and inpatient care.
This program joins the established WMed Family Medicine Residency in Kalamazoo, whose Family Medicine Practice is at the Family Health Center Clinic as well as the Oakland Drive Clinic, who have received patient-centered medical home certification from the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). The Bronson Hospital - Battle Creek Family Medicine Residency will join the Kalamazoo program as one of only 2 ACGME accredited residencies in the state to be housed completely in an FQHC.
WMed enrolled its first class of medical students in August 2014, which provides our faculty with the unique opportunity to be actively involved in the formation of a new school. As a newer, smaller medical school, the opportunities for research, involvement in committees, all levels of medical education and advancement abound.
