Getting a job in family medicine isn’t always as easy as it seems.

Pre-Screening Interview

The pre-screening interview is usually a 15-30 minute phone interview that assesses your experience and whether or not you should go to the next step. This step is usually done with a healthcare recruiter who will make that decision. 

Initially, you’ll be asked about your experience and how it relates to the position you’re applying for. You’ll also be asked about why you want to work for that particular organization and how your skill set can benefit them.

Group Interview

A group interview usually happens in the second or final interview. It can be intimidating to be in a room full of potential decision-makers and other candidates, and that’s the point. They know that it’s a pressure-filled situation, and they want to see how you respond.

In this case, you’ll want to keep your cool and display your leadership skills. Think of it as an opportunity to set yourself apart. You’ll want to be assertive, but not pushy in answering questions. That will help you set the right tone and show that you’re approachable and level-headed under pressure.

Final Interview

Hopefully, you’ve made it this far in the process to the point where it’s down to you and one or two other candidates.

In the final interview, you’ll want to close the deal. Answer their questions confidently, reiterate the benefits that you will bring to the organization.

Things to Know About the Job

It’s important to remember that you’re interviewing potential employers to ensure that they’re a good fit for you as much as you’re a good fit for them.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions about the position, what the day to day is like and about the working environment. You also want to be clear about other important items such as pay.
